Hello, my name is Paula Johnson.

In November 2006 I took part in Enduro Africa.

It was an incredible experience and I will update the site in the next few weeks.

I rode a 200cc motorcycle 2,500km across South Africa over 14 days.
At the end of the 14 days this motorcycle was given to Riders for Health to be used by a health worker.

Enduro Africa is a unique and challenging motorbike adventure in aid of the charity Riders for Health. The trip involves 100 motorcycle riders from all over the world tackling 14 days of dusty and demanding riding through some of South Africa's most rugged and isolated terrain, on Yamaha AG200 motorcycles.

Enduro Africa aims to buy at least 100 bikes for health workers in Africa and provide £50,000 for future maintenance and training programmes.

RIDERS QUICK FACTS

Riders for Health enabled
African health workers to
reach 9.79 million people
in 2002-2003.

Cost-wise the price of
one Land Cruiser is the
same as ten motorcycles.

Quick Fact
Bubonic plague is still endemic in Africa, even though all that is needed to cure it is flea powder. It is still rife because there is no means of transport to distribute this simple cure.

One health worker can be responsible for up to 20,000 people spread over many miles of harsh terrain. A fully-functioning motorcycle allows them to cover the distance more easily, and visit their communities on a far more regular basis than if they had to travel by foot.
